lost dolls, zone 3
Last night I dreamt of the abandoned toys
Outside the homes in my neighborhood
Specifically the doll with space buns and the pink shoes
Perched on a brass door handle
Maybe they left her keys on her desk
But she’s looking at the sky now.
So dark
It’s a new moon
It’s a supermassive sky
Smothering
Wondering when someone will come
At least just to lay a warm blanket
Over her bare legs?
Dreamt of the plastic blue truck with the butterfly sticker.
And the spotted and striped hand puppet
I would present them, as an award maybe
To the human who drew a smiley face
On the speedbump
Wrote ‘love you’ and ‘so much’
On the 2 and the 0 of the road speed sign
Dreamt of the grown up, who sews up
The sharpied plushie scooping sensitve stuffing
With soft fingertips
Three strokes for good luck
And godspeed, and did you know
On the next street
Just along there’s a caterpillar with purple ears
With hungry, purple ears
Who feels all of it too?
